According to Steve Zipay, Fedrik Sjostrom has accepted the Rangers qualifying offer for 1 year at $840,000.  This might make the Rangers the deepest team in the NHL.

Sjostrom had two goals and two assists in 18 games last season playing mostly on the 4th line.  He’s probably going to have to fight for a spot on the team considering the large number of 3rd and 4th line players that the Rangers have added since July 1.

Petr Prucha skated today in practice on the 4th line with Blair Betts and Fredrik Sjostrom. Renney didn’t say definitively whether Prucha was in, but it seems to be the way he is leaning. I am very much in favor of this move. That line will be fast on the ice, and with 3 solid back-checkers it should provide the Rangers with a few shifts per period to counter Crosby’s line or Malkin’s line (and give Gomez and Drury an extra breather).

Check out this skit from Letterman last night starring Brendan Shanahan, Sean Avery, Scott Gomez, Henrik Lundqvist, and Fredrik Sjostrom.

A Rangers win tonight guarantees finishing either 4th or 5th in the Conference.

Brendan Shanahan will be playing tonight, Blair Betts will not. He will most likely play Sunday against the Devils.

Petr Prucha rejoins Ryan Hollweg and Fredrik Sjostrom on the 4th line.

With Henrik Lundqvist in need of some rest, backup backstop Stephen Valiquette will start tonight against the Flyers. I say this is a good move considering the Flyers have yet to solve the Rangers backup goaltender. In 3 games against the Flyers this season, Valiquette has a GAA of 0.36 and SV% of .986.

With Blair Betts out for the next two to three weeks, we might see the the 4th line get even less time then they have been. This is bad news for the Fredrik Sjostrom although we might see Renney inject him into the lineup in other places throughout the game.

Martin Biron, whom the Rangers have had some trouble against, will start tonight for the Flyers.
