I’m never picking the Stars to win again.
- Are the Rangers “Shooting for the Shootout?” “Hey, why not with Henny Lundqvist, a virtual emperor in the one-on-ones, and Markus Naslund, Nik Zherdev and Fred Sjostrom just hunky-dory when it comes to taking enemy goalies for a deke in the park?”
- Sidney Crosby has closed the gap between him and the Habs’ three forwards for the starting lineup in the East from 52,826 votes to just 2,974in 24 hours (9 A.M. Wed-9 A.M. Thurs). As of 3 P.M. he is in second place and only 700 votes behind Alexei Kovalev.
- While we patiently await the NHL’s decision on the Sean Avery matter, how long do you think his suspension will be? [Puck Daddy]
Thursday’s picks are after the jump…
#2 New York Rangers @ #6 Montréal Canadiens
Eric – Rangers – In what might be the best matchup of the night, we have two of the best goalies in the East facing off. I’m giving a slight edge to the Rangers.
Marc – Habs – This is a tough one because the Rangers usually suck when they play in Quebec. But they are coming off a really nice win last night, which should give them some mo’. Then again, maybe they will be tired. I think I’ll pick the Habs because that will help the Rangers win.
Rory – Rangers – Toughie, I can’t root against my own team!
#14 New Jersey Devils @ #10 Philadelphia Flyers
Eric – Philly – “Brian Rolston is back and skating with the New Jersey Devils, which would be much more exciting for the Devils if he were an all-star defenseman or goalie.” –
Marc – Philly – Philly is on a hot streak. I think the Devils sub-par goaltending is going to start hurting them.
Rory – Philly – I hate both of these teams. But you know me, I hate the Devils more than anything.
#27 New York Islanders @ #12 Washington Capitals
Eric – Capitals – Attention all fantasy hockey managers with Capitals players on your team. Start them.
Marc – Capitals – The Isles are awful. Ovechkin might score 11 on MacDonald.
Rory – Capitals – Even DiPietro can’t protect the Sucklanders against the mighty O. And that’s when he’s actually playing. They’re screwed!
#5 Pittsburgh Penguins @ #16 Carolina Hurricanes
Eric – Penguins – It’s now 4:30 and Crosby has just overtaken all forwards in the East in the all star voting.
Marc – Canes – Crosby still hurting from Orr and Staal open-ice knockouts. Carolina fired up after their coach was, er, fired.
Rory – Penguins – ‘Redneck hockey’ is goin down.
#3 Boston Bruins @ #29 Tampa Bay Lightning
Eric – Bruins – Must keep man-crush on Lucic a secret… crap. *gimmie*
Marc – Bruins – They are on fire (8-1-1 in last 10). Tampa is on not-fire (1-5-4 in last 10).
Rory – Bruins – First place (pretty much) vs. last place (pretty much). And the Bruins aren’t the Rangers, so they shouldn’t lose to a last place team. *gimmie*
#18 Buffalo Sabres @ #24 Florida Panthers
Eric – Panthers – Craig Anderson is on fire lately and has been facing an average of 35 shots each game and saving 33 of them.
Marc – Panthers – Toss-up game, but Florida has been on a roll lately. Well, sort of, but not really… Whatever.
Rory – Sabres – Florida sucks, Buffalo doesn’t. Plus a bear would rip a cat apart in a fight. (Ed. Note: What?)
#9 Vancouver Canucks @ #4 Detroit Red Wings
Eric – Wings – Even if the city might fall into a pit of despair when the American car companies fold, there’s always the Red Wings. Have they ever not been at the top of their league? This game is at the Joe, and Luongo is injured. Game. Set. Match.
Marc – Wings – The Wings are really good. The Canucks are going with Cory Schneider in net. Enough said. *gimmie*
Rory – Wings – Without Luongo, no way in hell the ‘Nucks are beating the Detroit Flying Tires.
#19 Colorado Avalanche @ #15 Nashville Predators
Eric – Avs – I literally just flipped a coin.
Marc – Avs – Toss-up. I’d normally take the home team but the Preds are starting their backup goalie and Budaj shut out the Preds last time they played.
Rory – Preds – Nashville is actually doing pretty well – they’re in the top half of the standings. Plus they’ve got Jed Ortmeyer, who I miss. ❤ I like to see him succeed, considering he’s stuck in Tennessee.
#22 Toronto Maple Leafs @ #20 Phoenix Coyotes
Eric – Coyotes – I really don’t like the Leafs.
Marc – Coyotes – These teams are both pretty bad. Historically, the Leafs don’t do well in warm or desert climates. (I completely made that up).
Rory – Leafs – Hahahahaha.
#17 Columbus Blue Jackets @ #1 San Jose Tibúrones Sharks
Eric – Sharks – Do I really need to explain myself?
Marc – Sharks – They just don’t lose in the Big Computer, aka the HP Pavilion.
Rory – Sharks – San Jose seems to beat everyone this season.
