Let’s go through a projection of how the Rangers roster might shape up:
Zherdev-Gomez-[Jagr or some UFA]
Dawes-Drury-Callahan
Sjostrom-Dubinsky-Prucha
Hollweg-Betts-Orr
Fritsche-Rissmiller-Voros
Shanahan?
Rozsival-Staal
Redden-Girardi
Pock?-Strudwick?-Sanguinetti?
The Rangers have $14.5 million in cap space but that number does not include Dawes, Sjostrom, Fritsche, Rissmiller, Voros, or Strudwick.
Assuming the Rangers will spend roughly $4 or $5 million between those players, they will have about $9 or $10 million [...]

The Rangers traded defensemen Fedor Tyutin and Christian Backman to the Columbus Blue Jackets for forwards Nikolai Zherdev and Dan Fritsche.
In addition to adding some size and depth up front, the move will clear up some cap space for the Rangers to potentially make some moves (i.e. re-sign Jagr, acquire either Naslund or Huselius).
In my opinion, moving [...]

Here are some choice notes from the first period:

Penguins are flying out of the gate getting the first 8 shots
Rangers balance it out with a PP
Drury-Betts-Callahan best line half way through
Gomez centering Sjostrom and Prucha for a shift
Drury is still the man; great on the 4-on-3 Penalty Kill
Jagr tells Crosby to stand up and stop [...]

Can Henrik Lundqvist keep Sid the Kid and his cronies from punching the Rangers out of the playoffs? The only way to find [...]

Just a few snippets of Rangers reactions today at the morning skate.

Chris Drury, who had skated over to Avery while he was face-guarding Brodeur, explained that what he said to Avery during the incident (see youtube clip at 2:15) was that he was trying to get Avery to keep his stick down. “I didn’t [...]

It’s hard to argue with the results. Their 4-1 victory in Game 1 on the road was definitely just what the Rangers wanted. The problem is with the methods.
After a game filled with several lucky breaks and some really dangerous neutral zone and defensive zone giveaways, Jaromir Jagr called the 4-1 outcome “unfair” [...]

After a 13-game streak of aggressive, hard-nosed, and winning hockey, the Rangers returned to their pre-All-Star-break ineptitude in this weekend’s losses to the Panthers and Lightning — two teams outside of the playoff picture.
The Rangers showed no energy whatsoever in the two games.  The Eastern Conference is so tight that going into the weekend, it [...]

This is the 4th and final meeting of the season between the Rangers and Bruins, with the Bruins having won all 3 games thus far (although the Rangers have posted an 0-1-2 record). The Rangers will be trying to extend their unbeaten-in-regulation streak to 12 games.
There seems to be consensus among sportswriters that the [...]

Maybe the defense was asleep. Maybe the refs forgot the rules of hockey. Maybe Christian Backman got 10 penalty minutes (6 officially but it was him that made Cole’s face bleed, not Marc Staal. See second “maybe.”).
But does that really matter? Henrik played pretty well and Malik of all people had [...]
