Dallas had to play two divisional opponets. The Wings played the Preds in the first round, and they are division rivals. I wish they played each team at least twice, one home and one away...so all fans could be guaranteed of seeing every opponent in the league at least one time a year. I think the conference and division numbers could be "reduced" to do so. I think true rivalries are created by actual results between teams over time, not artificially just because they are grouped together and thereby forced to play multiple times. I have a proposal for the NHL to satisfy the schedule make teams play 8 games (4 home and 4 away) against divisonal opponents, 2 games (1 home and 1 away) against every team in the opposite conference, and only 3 games (5 opponents 2 games at home and 1 game away, and 5 opponents 1 game at home and 2 games away) aganist the 10 non-divisonal team in the conference.
